As we approach the holidays, we decided to take a pause on the financial topics and instead roll out the second edition of our RPA holiday gift guide!
The idea behind the guide is to share our favorite gifts to give this holiday season. We hope that we can give you some ideas for those tough-to-shop-for people in your life.
If you are like me, you do not have the time or patience to stand in the kitchen and cook all day. There are times when I want meat but do not feel like taking the time to cook it. I believe in eating healthy and not processed foods. The Instant Pot is a quick way to prep your meal for dinner in a short amount of time. Throw everything in, press start, and bam—your food is done in 20 minutes. From raw to cooked, just like that. Cooking efficiency at its best.
For years, regardless of the number of days of my trip, I would always overpack. I would bring enough clothes for a lifetime. I would always have to wait in the daunting lines to check my bag and then wait for my bag after. My Away carry-on suitcase changed that. If I am going on a three- or four-day trip, I pack only the outfits I need, walk on the plane with my carry-on, and walk off. It’s a major time saver.
Here is another helpful tip: If you travel more than once a year, spend a little time obtaining your pre-TSA check-in. Avoids the stress and lines at the airport, and along with your carry-on, you will have a new travel experience.
This clear acrylic jewelry case is perfect for storing everyday jewelry and keeping it organized. Hiding a new piece of jewelry in this gift is always a great idea, too! (Hint, hint, Brent.)
Calling all hostesses! This is a great staple piece to have. It is perfect for a nice charcuterie spread and also looks great as kitchen decor when not in use.
I’ve been skeptical of smart speakers. I had an Alexa, and I thought it was one of the worst devices ever invented. The sound quality is horrible, and it’s a creepy device that is always listening to you.
That said, Hayley loves listening to music, and we picked up an Apple HomePod as a Black Friday special. It’s great! The sound quality is amazing, Siri does an excellent job at curating music, and it’s not creepy like an Alexa. If you enjoy listening to music or podcasts and are in the Apple device ecosystem, the Apple HomePod is a great device for you.
Last year for Christmas, Hayley bought me a set of Nice Laundry dress socks. They are incredibly comfortable and look great with all my suits. As a bonus, you can get them monogrammed with your initials.
As I began a new job this year where my work is done primarily on a laptop that I take everywhere with me, I was determined to find a great work bag that could take me from daily meetings to evening events with ease. I have always preferred classic styles and fell in love with Cuyana’s timeless aesthetic when I came across their beautiful leather goods last year.
I decided to purchase the Tall Structured Leathered Zipper Tote in pebbled black leather and have used it every day since. It has plenty of space for all of my necessities, from a reusable water bottle to a full-size wallet, chargers, and a light sweater, along with perfect spaces to safely hold my cellphone and 13” MacBook Pro. The custom gold foil monogramming adds the loveliest personalized touch.
Perfect Books for Gifting
My favorite gifts to give and receive during the holidays are great books, particularly those related to cooking and entertaining. A few of my top picks from this past year have given me a newfound passion for baking fresh bread by hand, creating amazing meal prep plans for the week, baking grain-free and dairy-free desserts, and exploring the world of natural and biodynamic wines. When gifting books, I always love to add a special corresponding item to enjoy alongside it.
Flour Water Salt Yeast is more than just a collection of recipes for amazing bread and pizza—it offers a complete baking education, with a thorough yet accessible explanation of the tools and techniques that set artisan bread apart.
From LA’s trendy bakery comes the definitive grain-free baking book that makes eating paleo, gluten-free, and dairy-free diets a lot sweeter for home bakers. From the beginning, Sweet Laurel has been about making sweet things simple. The recipes here are indulgent yet healthful.
Gift idea: Pair with a beautiful cake plate.
Cook Once, Eat All Week is a revolutionary way to get a delicious, healthy, and affordable dinner on the table fast. Author Cassy Joy Garcia will walk you through this tried-and-true method and show you how batch-cooking a few basic components can give you an entire week’s worth of dinners with minimal time and effort.
Gift idea: Pair with a Snapware glass food storage set.
Find out more about natural wine—made naturally from organically or biodynamically grown grapes—from leading authority Isabelle Legeron.
Brooke and I purchased these packable North Face rain jackets before our trip to Europe this year, and they were a lifesaver. They didn’t take up any room in our luggage and kept us dry our entire trip. I would recommend one to anyone traveling to a rainy climate or to anyone who wants to stay dry when it rains. I wish I would have had a proper rain jacket years ago.
After a lot of research last Christmas, I finally purchased a doorbell camera, and I must say I am impressed. The Nest doorbell camera has great video quality, instant notifications, and an easy-to-use phone application. Great tool for home security, and Costco usually has them on sale.
These boots are wonderful, and I got great use out of them during our last rainy week in SoCal. They are lightweight, comfortable, and stylish. They have an array of colors, patterns, and sizes for both adults and children. Of note, they do not come in half sizes, and they recommend you size down for a perfect fit.
This past year, Joshua and I have really gotten into candles. We love to have one lit over dinner, while entertaining guests, and while watching movies together. I was gifted a Diptyque candle a few months back, and now I am addicted to purchasing each scent.
The candles come in a few different sizes, and the price tag may seem high, but the quality is outstanding and the scent really fills the room! The packaging is also lovely. My two favorite scents are Baies and Vanilla. Baies is a beautiful floral scent, and the Vanilla is perfect, not too overbearing.
